Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

Journal of Philology and Codicology Cathexis Studies (JPCCS) is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing, editorial independence, and scholarly transparency.

The journal follows internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing and is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices.

Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • evaluating manuscripts fairly and objectively;
  • maintaining editorial independence;
  • protecting manuscript confidentiality;
  • selecting appropriate reviewers;
  • avoiding conflicts of interest;
  • making decisions based on academic merit;
  • investigating credible allegations of misconduct;
  • ensuring appropriate corrections or retractions;
  • preventing manipulation of editorial processes.

Editorial decisions must not be influenced by:

  • nationality;
  • ethnicity;
  • gender;
  • religion;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • political beliefs;
  • personal relationships;
  • commercial interests; or
  • other irrelevant considerations.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers must:

  • provide objective and constructive assessments;
  • maintain confidentiality;
  • disclose conflicts of interest;
  • evaluate manuscripts within their areas of expertise;
  • avoid personal criticism;
  • identify relevant uncited scholarship where appropriate;
  • alert editors to possible plagiarism or ethical concerns.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.

Duties of Authors

Authors must:

  • submit original work;
  • properly cite all sources;
  • accurately report research methods and findings;
  • avoid plagiarism and duplicate publication;
  • disclose conflicts of interest;
  • disclose funding sources;
  • obtain required permissions;
  • comply with ethical requirements;
  • ensure appropriate authorship;
  • cooperate with editorial investigations when necessary.

Plagiarism

JPCCS does not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

Plagiarism includes:

  • unattributed copying;
  • inappropriate paraphrasing;
  • plagiarism of ideas;
  • plagiarism of data;
  • plagiarism of images;
  • unattributed translation;
  • substantial text recycling;
  • duplicate publication.

Authorship

Authorship must accurately reflect scholarly contributions.

Guest authorship, honorary authorship, gift authorship, and ghost authorship are unacceptable.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any relationship or interest that could reasonably influence professional judgment.

Duplicate and Redundant Publication

Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

Previously published material must be clearly identified and appropriately cited.

Research Misconduct

JPCCS does not tolerate:

  • fabrication;
  • falsification;
  • plagiarism;
  • peer-review manipulation;
  • citation manipulation;
  • inappropriate authorship;
  • fraudulent data;
  • systematic manipulation of publication processes.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors, reviewers, and readers may submit reasoned complaints or appeals to the editorial office.

Appeals should identify:

  • the manuscript or article concerned;
  • the basis for the appeal;
  • relevant editorial or reviewer comments;
  • scholarly justification for reconsideration.

Corrections and Retractions

Where necessary, JPCCS may publish:

  • corrections;
  • corrigenda;
  • retractions;
  • expressions of concern.

Retractions may be considered when published work contains serious errors, plagiarism, fabrication, unethical research, duplicate publication, or other major integrity concerns.

Editorial Independence

The publisher respects the editorial independence of the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team.

Commercial, institutional, or financial considerations must not improperly influence decisions regarding individual manuscripts.

Ethical Oversight

Authors must comply with applicable ethical requirements for research involving:

  • human participants;
  • personal data;
  • indigenous or local communities;
  • cultural heritage;
  • restricted manuscripts;
  • archival collections;
  • archaeological materials;
  • religious or culturally sensitive materials.

Generative AI

AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Authors remain responsible for all content generated or modified using artificial intelligence.

Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to AI platforms in ways that compromise confidentiality or intellectual property.
